Project B
Here is just a brief description of what I plan to do for Project B in the next term. I will write about how important moments of social transformation affect children's literature in Western society, as we shift from homogeneity and sameness to diversity and inclusion. I want to look at historical examples of children's works that would be deemed socially unacceptable today, as well as contemporary books that adapt to and/or reinforce norms of modern life. I have already found some possible contemporary titles here. My argument is that this adaptation to the present is necessary for children to better understand the world around them as it stands today. To look at my findings to date, see the Findings blog.
