Correcting the Past?
Because they were written in the past, many beloved children's stories are loaded with cultural biases common to the time period. Author James Finn Garner has decided to subvert these biases in a humorous way in his book Politically Correct Bedtime Stories. These classic stories have been retold with language more appropriate to today's politically correct climate. The entire anthology is a satire of excessive political correctness, as it is taken to the extreme in every story. For example, in the retelling of The Three Little Pigs, the pigs complain of being "oppressed" by the wolf and his constant threats to blow their house down. Also, the princess in The Frog Prince avoids the expansionist tactics of the frog, who, when kissed, turns into a real estate developer.

I feel as though the language and concepts will go over children's heads (perhaps this is an ageist bias), but the humour would definitely be picked up by older audiences. It seems like one of those things that one may like when younger, but will pick up on what they missed later on.
