Is the V-Chip Effective?
In the 1990s, something was created to protect children from gratuitous scenes of sex and violence on television. It was colloquially known as the “V-Chip” and, when activated, it would block any shows with offending content based on that show’s detected rating. The technology has become commonplace in many television sets since its introduction.
As for its effectiveness, I am not sure that the V-Chip does everything to monitor the content that children will view. Although I have never used this technology myself, I am aware of similar parental control devices such as channel locking, where specific channels will be locked and a passcode would have to be entered to unlock it. Parents need to be more aware if they are concerned about their children’s viewing habits
