The Sounds of Space (Spaces Speak, Are You Listening? by Barry Blesser and Linda-Ruth Salter) [*]
In an analysis of aural architecture, the authors insist the sounds discovered within spaces can provoke a behavioural response as well as a knowledge of detection. From this, one can pick up an experience in accordance with their response. An aural experience in a space can encourage social activity, provide direction within the space, create an aesthetic understanding of the space, and enriches the person's sense of sound and music.
It is interesting to see the effects of aural spaces on the people within said spaces, and the authors have demonstrated this much in their research. This is similar to the way children of varying ages respond to sound. Children may imitate sounds, be disturbed by them, or create their own. The responses have the potential to instill in children a profound interest in music later on.
